Find out moreWelcome to the new GALLERY area of Sails & Rods!
For the majority of the photos presented in the other categories, these are limited editions of very beautiful photos from press reports, published or not, and not accessible to the "general public" before today. Our favorite fields are CAR, MOTORCYCLE, BOAT, PLANE and ESCAPE (this last term mainly evoking seaside atmospheres), all at reasonable prices so that a maximum of you can enjoy it !
While respecting this initial philosophy, this GALLERY space goes further by offering you truly unique works, representing the vision of artist photographers. These photos offer chromies, techniques, supports and formats chosen by the artist himself to give birth to a work. These are no longer "extracts" of reportage, but original creations.
Their format, their even more limited number of editions and their adapted price required that we reserve a place for them a little apart.
At Sails & Rods, we sincerely believe that working in the midst of art photos will help you and your collaborators to find inspiration, to escape for a moment, to feed your curiosity, in short to feel good at the office! Sale or rental of works, unique and limited prints or setting up thematic exhibitions, we support you in the realization of your artistic projects.
Find out morePassionate about motorsport from an early age, Cédric Marcadier was 12 years old when the Val de Vienne circuit emerged from the ground. He accompanies his father there at the weekend, who introduces him to speed, racing and the atmosphere of the paddocks. He is quickly offered his first film camera to immortalize the cars he meets there.
Later, he moved to Paris where he pursued engineering studies but kept his passion intact. With friends he created an association to organize track days. It was by wanting to immortalize their exploits that he discovered digital photography. From then on, he will seek to render the atmosphere, the sensations, the adrenaline inherent in this sport.
He then began his self-taught apprenticeship. He developed his technical and artistic skills by browsing the automotive press where he observed the methods of specialists in the field, but he also scoured photo exhibitions and discovered a passion that went far beyond the framework of the automobile.
Thus, among his influences we can cite sports photographers like Paul Henri Cahier or Vladimir Rys but also artists such as Michael Kenna whose minimalism, careful framing and mastery of black and white he admires, or even Sarah Moon and Paolo Roversi for their use of blur.
The rest of his career is built according to the meetings. He collaborates more and more with clubs during their outings on the circuit, does some freelance work for motorcycle magazines and will have the opportunity to follow Simon Pagenaud between 2004 and 2005 when he races in Formula Renault 2.0 then 3.5. Subsequently, he covered various events in several national and international championships (FFSA and FIA GT, BELCAR, BTCC, Lotus Cup Europe...).
Gradually he detaches himself from the documentary approach and gives way to a more conceptual and artistic style, abandoning color in favor of black and white for its timeless side. However, its objective remains the same: to convey the essence of automotive passion.
Since 1994, I have been working in photography. In these press agencies, specializing in sports, I have experienced many joys at the sight of extraordinary “plates”. Then came the time of the frustration of sometimes being the only one who could enjoy it.
Indeed, if these images were not selected by the decision-makers of our client magazines, for very diverse reasons and not only artistic ones, no one would ever see them, quite simply.
In 2016, the decision was therefore made to unite a large number of photographers among my professional and personal network, in order to make their best shots available to as many people as possible, you!
The time had come to allow you to acquire art photos. These images will be either the most beautiful artistic, historical photos, or even both, extracted from reports, or works of artists wishing to exhibit their own vision of our favorite fields: AUTOMOTIVE, MOTORBIKES, BOATS, PLANES and ESCAPE (Sea Shores). So many universes allowing you to travel within our common passions, and which you will have the opportunity to share with your loved ones.
We voluntarily offer these quality art photos at affordable prices, so that everyone can find what they are looking for, either in Open Edition or accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity for limited editions.
Have fun,
Arnaud Letrésor
