The America's Cup has had several lives. From schooners in the Bay of Cowes to flying catamarans in San Francisco Bay, the owners have continued to evolve the world of competitive sailing, and at the same time, the cruise sailing. The 12 MJI were no exception to the rule. Initially planned for the Olympic Games, these boats with a restrictive gauge considering certain formal characteristics will then be selected to race the America's Cup from 1958 to 1987. Still in the hands of wealthy owners, sailboats are racing now among them, at 4 corners of the world. In 2009, the world championship was held in Newport Bay in the United States. One French ship, Challenge Twelve, was present face of American supremacy.
Tensions on these boats are huge and the sound of the tracks give the impression that everything is going to break at every maneuver.
