This 1976 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans started well for the Alpine Renault A442 driven by Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Patrick Tambay (photo) and José Dolhem (half-brother of Didier Pironi) since Jabouille will get the pole position and the best lap time of the race.
They will unfortunately have to give up in round 135, but this 1976 edition was a race to see and learn, Alpine having engaged only one car, equipped with a V6 Turbo.
It was surely not innocent since Jabouille was also devoted this same year to the development of the revolutionary 1500 cc turbo engine, which will equip the famous "Yellow tea Pot", the future Renault F1.
