I came to photography by accident. My father Jean-Pierre Thibault called me one day to offer me to enter the DPPI agency, which he founded in 1965, specialized in motorsport. I had the chance to go through the back door and learn all facets of the operation of a photographic press agency.

From "small hand" to the Black & White laboratory via the archive, I learned the basics of photography on the edge of the racetracks in the 80's-90's.

At the beginning of the extensive media coverage of sport in general, the agency enlarged its activity to other disciplines. It was during this period that I was asked to take care of selling boats pictures by organizing a "Sea" department.

After a professional break at the passage of the century, during which I could among other things restored some cars (NR : including the Beltoise iconic Matra MS1 1965) I took back the viewfinder to mount topics for the press.

Born into a family where the car was its main purpose since its genesis, I bathed my entire childhood with racing cars and their history as a backdrop.

These are not the shapes and colors that interest me, that's what's behind the lens.

BMW 328 type "Mille Miglia"
The BMW 328 was conceived five years after the debut of the brand in the automotive sector. Established in 1916, the Bavarian firm produced aircraft engines and in 1923 began to produce motorcycles. It is in the context of the global crisis of 1929 that BMW produced its first cars, including the 328 in 1935-1936.

BMW has concentrated on the chassis for rigidity and lightness. The basis of a 2L engine - 6 cylinders in line, was already used on previous models but had received a new cylinder head with returning valves, innovative at the time.

The German brand wished to produce a sports car that would participate in competitions (at the time the sporty road cars could easily be used in a race with some modifications). The standard 328 weighs only 830kg, with a rigid frame and an engine developing 80cv.

From 1936 to the postwar period, the 328 will monopolize all competitions with the sport's model "Mille Miglia" (the one pictured) "boosted" to 140cv. From the outset, she won her first race at the Nurburgring, and then the Tourist Trophy, with home drivers. In subsequent years, it will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans in Class 2 Liter to register under his belt and then the Mille Miglia in consecutive years.

This car is little known to our generation, but those who know her admit that the 328 is a car that marked its time with its sporting history and its technical characteristics. This car has now become a brand icon at the propeller's  brand.
