This 1967 London Trophy was not part of the first European Formula 2 championship, won by the Belgian Jacky Ickx, on a Matra from the Matra International team (Tyrrell Racing / Matra MS5 Cosworth FVA), but allowed to be idea of the forces involved. Indeed, Jacky Ickx and Jean-Pierre Beltoise had the same Matra, the advanced car of the time, but were not part of the same team. Ickx was racing for Tyrrell Racing, with Stewart and Jaussaud, while Beltoise was at Matra Sports with Servoz-Gavin and Pescarolo.
Spectators perhaps privileged, but unconscious, could placed themselves at the edge of the track, at the exit of turn in addition ... We guess the total commitment of Ickx which goes as far as risking its wheels in the grass, certainly cheered by a large and passionate crowd!
